Pilot Seriously Injured In Small Plane Crash

LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — A small plane crashed at Montgomery Airpark at the end of the runway shortly after taking off, leaving the pilot with serious injuries.

Montgomery County Fire Spokesman Pete Piringer says the plane was at an altitude of about 75 to 100 feet when it crashed around noon Saturday. Piringer says the pilot was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The pilot was the only occupant on the plane.

HazMat crews were on the scene handling a small fuel spill at the airport, located at 7940 Airpark Road in Gaithersburg.

It was not immediately known what made the plane crash and leave the runway.
