TIMONIUM, Md. (WNEW) — Several county fairs have come and gone in our area this summer and now it’s time for big time – the Maryland State Fair.
Gates opened Friday and WNEW’s Cameron Thompson spoke with one volunteer who’s been there a very long time.
For the past 30-plus years, Bob Shirley has been announcing the horse show at the fair. That’s long enough to get the ring named after him, but his ties go back even further.
“First job I had at the Maryland State Fair I was the office boy in the draft horse office,” Shirley says. “That was 1946.”
The fair runs until Sept. 1.
