LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — A popular women’s shoe and accessories company has come under fire for ads that some are calling sexist.
Nine West, which has several locations in the D.C./Baltimore area, launched a campaign that features shoes for “husband hunting” and “walk of shame” purses.
One ad featuring “first day of kindergarten” shoes says: “The bus arrives and so do the waterworks. Then it hits you: mommy now has the weeks off.”
After posting the “husband hunting” ad on its Facebook page Friday, customers lashed out.
“Love your shoes but don’t patronize your customers by an outdated ideal,” one woman wrote. “Women are hunting success and goals, dreams and visions. Not husbands.”
” If this is your attitude toward your customers, I no longer consider myself one,” another commented. “Really disgusted that my previous purchases of Nine West shoes have enriched the bottom line of a company that has so little respect for its customers.”
