WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — The Washington Nationals have recalled outfielder Steven Souza, Jr. from Triple-A Syracuse, as Nate McLouth makes his way to the 15-day Disabled List, the team announced on Monday.

McLouth’s stay on the DL — due to right shoulder inflammation — is retroactive to Aug. 2.

Souza, 25, joins the Nationals for the second time in the 2014 season, and currently leads the International League in four offensive categories: batting average (.354), on-base percentage (.435), slugging percentage (.601) and OPS (1.036). He’s hit 18 home runs and driven in 70 RBI in 91 games.

In his earlier appearance for the Nats this season, Souza went 1-for-8 (.125) at the plate, with a walk and three strikeouts.

McLouth is hitting .179 through 79 games (33 starts) — with 1 home run and 7 RBI — primarily coming off the bench.
