WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, believes impeachment should be on the table if President Barack Obama goes through with executive actions over immigration.

Speaking to “Fox News Sunday,” King stated there might be no other alternative if Obama acts alone on the border crisis.

“I think Congress has to sit down and have a serious look at the rest of this Constitution – and that included that ‘I’ word we don’t want to say,” King said.

The Iowa Republican implored Obama not to override the Constitution.

“I want to encourage the president, please don’t put America into a constitutional crisis,” King told Fox News. “Please don’t do that. There’s too much at stake in this country to be decided that you can take over the Constitution and write it at will.”

Obama said during a press conference Friday that he’s “going to have to act alone” on the border crisis because the government is running out of money to deal with it.

King says that lawmakers will “have to sit down and take a look at” impeachment if that happens.

“Where would we draw the line otherwise? If that’s not enough to bring that about, then I don’t know what would be,” King said. “We’ve never seen anything in this country like a president that says, ‘I’m going to make up all the immigration laws that I choose and I’m going to drive this thing regardless of the resistance of Congress.’”

Senior White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer says Obama will make a decision by the end of the summer on how to use his authority to address immigrants living illegally in the U.S.

Pfeiffer called reports that Obama might delay the deportation of up to 5 million immigrants “uninformed speculation.” He said Obama is waiting for recommendations from Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Secretary Jeh Johnson before taking action, but any actions would be within “the confines of the law.”

He said Obama has no choice but to act on his own because of Congress’ “failure to fix the immigration system ” and to provide extra money to deal with Central American children crossing the U.S-Mexico border.

“Because of Congress’s failure to fix the immigration system and to pass the supplemental appropriations, we need to deal  with the specific crisis on the border … the president has no choice but to act,” Pfeiffer said.

Pfeiffer added: Obama “is going to do what he can…under the confines of the law.”

Pfeiffer spoke Sunday on ABC News’ “This Week.”
