FAIRFAX, Va. (WNEW/AP) — Authorities say three people have been injured during a chase on Interstate 66.
Virginia State Police say shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday, officers stopped a Dodge Charger whose driver was wanted by the local police. As the officer was taking the driver into custody, the passenger took control of the wheel and sped off.
State police say they pursued the fleeing Charger until the driver lost control and careened into a line of traffic in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 66.
Authorities say at least three people suffered injuries, including the driver of the Charger, who was taken into custody.
Police have not released the name of the driver.
Three lanes of traffic were closed on eastbound I-66 and traffic was backed up for miles.
