LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Two people are dead from possible drug overdoses during an all-day “block party” at Merriweather Post Pavilion.
Tyler Fox Viscardi, 20, of Raleigh, N.C., was taken to Howard County General Hospital just after 9 p.m. Friday, Howard County Police say. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
A 17-year-old male from Woodbridge, Virginia, died at the same hospital Sunday. He had been in critical condition since Friday.
Both deaths appear to be drug-related. Officials are still waiting for the results of toxicology reports.
It does not appear that the two men knew each other, police say.
In all, 20 people were taken to the hospital following the “Mad Decent Block Party” concert at Merriweather in Columbia, Md. Police say it appears that many of the cases are drug-related.
Police also issued 50 citations for under-age drinking during the event and made three arrests, including assault on a police officer, domestic assault and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
The “Mad Decent Block Party” is a music festival that travels around the country. Other venues have experienced similar incidents hosting this event, investigators say.
