LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Traffic is backed up nearly 10 miles on the Inner Loop of Interstate 495 in Montgomery County after a major, multi-vehicle accident Thursday morning.

Rescue and hazmat crews are continuing to impede traffic on the Capital Beltway at New Hampshire Avenue after a crash involving two cars and a tractor-trailer resulted in a spill on the roadway.

All four travel lanes were blocked at New Hampshire Avenue for nearly three hours after a crash involving two cars and a tractor-trailer resulted in a spill on the roadway.

Police had been diverting traffic onto U.S. 29/Colesville Road while crews cleaned up the spill. Access to the Capital Beltway was blocked between U.S. 29/Colesville Road and MD 650/New Hampshire Avenue as well.

Delays extended past the Interstate 270 spur.
