Hillary Clinton on Redskins Name: ‘It’s Insensitive’
LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Potential 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says the Washington Redskins name is “insensitive,” becoming the latest politician to publicly call for the team to change its name.
“I think it’s insensitive and I think there’s no reason for it to continue as the name of a team in our nation’s capital,” the former Secretary of State said in an interview with Fusion TV. “I would love to see the owners think hard about what they could substitute.”
Asked if she had any suggestions for a new team name should Redskins owner Daniel Snyder ever decide to change the name, Clinton said, “No. No. I haven’t thought a lot about that.”
Clinton’s stance on the Redskins name falls in line with other top Democrats. Earlier this year, 50 U.S. Senators signed a letter urging the team to change the name.
