LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — A McDonald’s in Prince George’s County got a surprise customer at its drive-thru window early Tuesday morning.

A man driving a stolen SUV crashed into the fast-food restaurant — which was closed — just after 5 a.m. Tuesday in Landover Hills, police say.

The vehicle caught on fire but was extinguished shortly after. No one was inside the store at the time of the crash.

Police say the man carjacked the SUV from the 7000 block of Annapolis Road shortly before the crash. He then drove down Annapolis Road and struck a minivan. The driver of the minivan followed the stolen SUV and watched it crash into the McDonald’s, located in the 6200 block of Annapolis Road.

An adult male was placed into custody after officers arrived at the McDonald’s. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The building sustained some damage and a building inspector is en route to evaluate the structure.
