LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — The National Aquarium in Baltimore is in the running to be named the “Best North American Aquarium.”

USA TODAY and 10Best have teamed together to coordinate the contest. They chose 20 aquariums from the U.S. and Canada to vie for the title.

The 20 aquariums were chosen by weighing annual visitor count, square footage, total aquarium gallons, membership numbers, affordability of entrance fees, awards won and commitment to conservation efforts for each.

People can vote once per day for their favorite aquarium until noon on Aug. 18.

The contest notes that it opted to exclude the SeaWorld facilities; Epcot’s ‘The Seas;’ Busch Gardens at Tampa Bay; and Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas because they all fall outside the parameters of a traditional aquarium.
