Va. Veterinarian In The Running To Become “America’s Favorite”
LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — An animal doctor from Alexandria, Virginia’s Belle Haven Animal Medical Centre is in the running to become “America’s Favorite Veterinarian.”
According to the Belle Haven website, Dr. Katy J. Nelson grew up surrounded by animals on a farm in Louisiana. She now lives in D.C. with her husband, two kids, two dogs and a turtle.
Nelson serves as the Executive Chair for the Washington Humane Society’s Fashion for Paws Advisory Board, is on the public relations board for the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, and is a founding partner of PetsMove.org, a national health and fitness initiative aimed at making people and their dogs healthier.
She even hosts and produces “The Pet Show with Dr. Katy” on ABC 7.
The “America’s Favorite Veterinarian” contest is run by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation. You can vote in the contest at AmericasFavoriteVeterinarian.org.
Nominations for the contest were submitted online. People were asked to include a brief essay explaining why their veterinarian deserved recognition for his or her work. A committee of judges comprising animal health industry leaders, animal health bloggers, and board members from the AVMF evaluated the veterinarians based on the nominators’ essays and the veterinarians’ responses to questions about their practices and professional philosophies.
The winner will receive a $500 cash prize, a trip to the 2015 AVMA convention in Boston, a year feature on the AVMF website and a community celebration at his or her clinic for staff and clients. They will also have the opportunity to become a spokesperson for the AVMF.
