Uber Driver Allegedly Sexually Assaults Passenger

LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) – An Uber cab driver has been accused of sexually assaulting a passenger, police say.

Reshad Chakari, 31, of Alexandria, Virginia, has been charged with second-degree sexual abuse.

The incident occurred in the 1400 block of Rhode Island Ave., NW, on July on July 20 around 2:30 a.m., according to D.C. Police. A woman reported that an Uber cab driver had sexually assaulted.

In a statement released to WNEW, Uber states that the company is taking the incident seriously and treating the matter “with the utmost urgency and care.”

The riding-sharing company added, “We stand ready to assist authorities in any investigation.”
