LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) – Prince George’s County Police say a man impersonated a police officer and attempted to kidnap two children.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Friday in the 7300 block of Landover Road.
Michael Jesse McLong, 25, allegedly approached a 12-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother, telling the children he was a police officer. Police say he then grabbed the girl’s arm and pulled her toward the back of a Landover shopping center.
A driver who was driving by the incident confronted McLong, allowing for the children to run away, authorities say.
An off-duty Cheverly Police officer and a nearby security guard detained McLong until Prince George’s County Police officers arrived.
McLong is facing multiple charges related to the attempted kidnapping. Detectives are investigating the possibility of other victims.
