OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — A stuck drawbridge is frustrating travelers trying to get to and from Ocean City.
The Harry W. Kelley Memorial Bridge on Route 50 became stuck in the open position on Saturday as a result of a mechanical issue.
Highway officials are recommending travelers use Maryland Route 90, the Ocean City Expressway, to get in or out of Ocean City, but there are traffic backups as a result.
A state report from 2012 says the four-lane bridge was built in 1942 and named after a former mayor of Ocean City. The reports says that in 2011 the bridge carried an average of 48,600 vehicles on Saturdays in the summer.
