National Ice Cream Day in the District

WASHINGTON (WNEW) — It’s the third Sunday in July, which gives lovers of a certain creamy, delicious dessert an excuse to break their diets.

30 years ago, President Ronald Reagan signed Joint Resolution 298 proclaiming the third Sunday in every July as National Ice Cream Day.

Lola from Northeast D.C. is enjoying a few heaping spoonfuls of ice cream Sunday after her dad offered her and her sisters’ a deal; They would head to Baskin Robbins in Woodley Park, but do it via bicycle.

“I didn’t want to go so he bribed me and said we’re gonna get ice cream after we go on a bike ride,” Lola said.
