White House Placed on Lockdown Due to Unattended Packages

LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) – The White House was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon as the Secret Service investigated two unattended packages, a Secret Service official said.

The first package was discovered around 3:45 p.m. on the north fence line while the second was reported about an hour later.

Uniformed Secret Service and Metropolitan Police officers investigated before the White House was reopened around 5:30 p.m.
