WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Anthony Cumia, one half of the popular satellite radio show ‘Opie and Anthony,’ tweeted Friday morning he’d been fired by SiriusXM, likely for alleged racial tweets he’d made earlier in the week.

Cumia, 53, claimed on Twitter early Wednesday morning he’d been assaulted by a woman on the streets of New York City, the city in which he and co-host Greg ‘Opie’ Hughes have hosted their satellite show since 2004.

Terrestrial Host Blasts SiriusXM Over Cumia Firing

Cumia says he was in Times Square taking photos when the woman, “who was in the frame punched me in the face,” alleging her attacks to be over not wanting to be included in his photos, adding, “then she punched me 5 more times.”

“I hope she gets killed,” he went on to say.

He then launched into a political diatribe, which would span the course of the next several days, about societal double standards, seeming dead-set on proving the point there’s “a deep seeded problem with violence in the black community,” although, “try to address it and you’ll be exiled to racistville.”

With the satellite show running ‘Best Of’ segments Wednesday and Thursday, Cumia hadn’t yet had the opportunity to describe his account of the incident, in full, on the air.

Friday morning, he hinted in a series of tweets at SiriusXM possibly taking action against him for his remarks.

Later, he’d go on to tweet “Sirius decided to cave and fire me.”

SiriusXM has released a statement confirming Cumia’s termination.

“SiriusXM has terminated its relationship with Anthony Cumia of the Opie & Anthony channel.  The decision was made, and Cumia informed, late Thursday, July 3 after careful consideration of his racially-charged and hate-filled remarks on social media. Those remarks and postings are abhorrent to SiriusXM, and his behavior is wholly inconsistent with what SiriusXM represents. “

Cumia has indicated he’ll take the weekend to regroup, then “I’ll have a better idea of things,” at which point he’ll discuss the matter further on his podcast, ‘Live from the Compound,’ with “TOTAL FREEDOM.”

Cumia has long been a staunch supporter of free speech, an ideal which aligned in perfect harmony with his former employer, SiriusXM, which provided the platform for his uncensored satellite radio show.
