Roof of College Apartment Building Flies Off During Storm

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WNEW) — The roof of an apartment building near the University of Maryland campus in College Park blew off during a strong storm Thursday afternoon. No injuries were reported.

A portion of the roof on the 7-story Enclave apartment building, located in the 8700 block of Route 1 in College Park, blew off just before 5 p.m., according to Prince George’s County Fire spokesman Mark Brady. Part of the structure came to rest on the roadway, Brady said.

Route 1 is expected to be closed through late Thursday night between Greenbelt Road and Berwyn Road while crews work to clean up the debris.

Severe thunderstorms blew through the region Thursday afternoon, producing large hail and damaging winds.
