UPDATED: June 29, 2014 12:53 p.m.

WASHINGTON (WNEW/AP) — Officials conducted an emergency response drill at one of the soon-to-open stations on the Silver Line.

Metro says the goal of Sunday’s exercise at the Spring Hill station was to test response capabilities and build coordination ahead of the opening of the Silver Line on July 26. The exercise involved evacuating a disabled train and responders practicing safely evacuating passengers using emergency equipment.

The exercise began around 9:00 a.m. and took several hours to complete.

Metro says the agencies participating in the drill included Metro Transit Police, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire and Rescue Department, the Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management and Virginia State Police.
