LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Traffic was snarled along Constitution Avenue in northwest Washington for a most peculiar reason Thursday morning.
A large tree smashed onto a silver Ford Expedition around 6:15 a.m., police say.
The westbound lanes of Constitution Avenue prior to 18th Street were completely blocked for a time as Park Police crews worked to clean up the debris. All lanes were reopened shortly after 9 a.m. The eastbound travel lanes were unaffected, but drivers experienced rubbernecking delays.
The woman driving the car was not injured, according to police.
It is unclear whether heavy rains overnight caused the tree to topple.
