Powerful Storms Knock Out Power for Thousands

FAIRFAX, Va. — Strong rain and lightning knocked out power to thousands of people overnight in the Washington and Baltimore areas.
Fairfax County, Virginia, was hardest hit. Dominion Virginia Power had about 2,800 customers without power in Fairfax County early Thursday. But by 7 a.m., only about 600 outages remained.
Baltimore Gas and Electric had about 6,500 weather-related outages, primarily in Harford County and Baltimore city. The utility says all but about 350 customers have had power restored.
In Prince George’s County, Pepco had about 550 outages overnight and another 400 in Montgomery County. About 127 customers were still without power by 7 a.m.
Most customers in the District of Columbia did not lose power.
