LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) – The long-awaited Silver Line is slated to open in July and Metro is running a contest to celebrate.
Metro announced Wednesday that it will randomly select 10 winners to participate in the July 26 grand opening ceremony and be the first to ride on the Silver Line train.
Each winner and one guest will receive reserved seating at the opening event, a ride on the first train and an unlimited Metrorail one-day pass for travel to and from the inaugural activities, according to Metro.

“This is one of the ways for the public to participate in the grand opening and an opportunity for Metro to say thank you to our riders,” Lynn Bowersox, Metro assistant general manager, said in a news release.

Metro expects to announce additional details about the opening ceremony next week.
Metro officials said Monday that a $2.9 billion segment of the Silver Line serving northern Virginia is expected to open next month – after decades of planning, delays and blown budget projections. The line runs through Tysons Corner from Reston to Falls Church on a route that roughly parallels the Dulles Toll Road.
