WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A large portion of this news item is from last week, but since Robert Griffin III also received a pair of someone else’s cleats, Snoop
Dogg’s Lion’s, in the mail, it’s worthy of writing a quick catchall of everything RGIII and cleat related.
First, there was last week’s release of Griffin’s new burgundy and gold D.C.-themed cleat, which is also a shoe, that’s also available in a wide array of colors and patterns on Adidas’s website.
Griffin unveiled his new shoe/cleat on Twitter last Wednesday, along with the accompanying YouTube video:
In the video, Griffin explains:
One of the things I’ve always said in my life, is you always take pride in where you’re from and where you’re at, so this shoe right here, is me taking pride in the city that I play in. The DMV is really where we play, but in D.C., these are the colors of our team, and I feel like the city of D.C. itself is a city of business, but it’s also a city of fun. So when see the burgundy in the middle, that’s the business part. But then the outside, that’s all fun. So this shoe is to you guys; appreciate everything; appreciate you guys taking me in and making me one of your own and treating me the way you do.
More on the cleat in the YouTube description:
“Dedicated to DMV. Take pride in where you’re from, where you’re at and where you’re going.
RG3 thanks the DMV for taking him in 2 years ago and wants to pay tribute to the organization, his teammates, coaches, fans, and supporters that have helped him along the way.
Then on Friday, Griffin tweeted himself holding a pair of Snoop Dogg’s new “adizero 5-Star Snoop Lion” Adidas cleats, which were mailed to football players in the NFL and college ranks, including Von Miller and Texas A&M.
Here’s more information on Snoop’s cleat, provided by Adidas:
The first celebrity cleat collaboration from adidas, Snoop’s 5-star is done-up with gold cleat tips and detailing with an all-white toe box and roaring lion printed from the mid-foot to heel. The sockliner and ankle collar feature a sublimated lion fur inspired print and the lace jewel is a lion tooth grill modeled after one of Snoop’s personal chains. Snoop detailing also includes a Snoop Lion signature printed across the tongue.
A lifelong football fan, Snoop was eager to bring his personal style to the field. “As an avid football fan, I’m excited about my cleat collab with adidas,” said Snoop Dogg. “The cleats are not only made for top performance, but specially designed by me – so get ready to be suited and booted, dipped and whipped like me.”
Dogg’s/Lion’s limited edition cleat will be available to the public at Undefeated in L.A. on Friday, June 27 for $120.
Griffin even got a RT from ‘Unc.’
There are just so many cleats and shoes, and cleats that look like shoes, and so much Tweeting and Retweeting — Adidas really appears to have all its marketing ducks in a row — that maybe it will just be easier if you view more photos (of Griffin’s and Snoop’s cleats) here.
