WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — The Washington Capitals will take on the Montreal Canadiens at the Verizon Center to mark the beginning of the 2014-2015 season.

The highlight of the newly released, regular season schedule is the 2015 Winter Classic, where the Capitals will host the Chicago Blackhawks on New Year’s Day at 1 p.m.

Former Predators coach, now Capitals head coach, Barry Trotz will return to Nashville to face his former team for the first time Jan. 16 when the Capitals visit Bridgestone Arena.

Trotz was the only coach in Predators franchise history before being fired at the end of last season. He was hired as the Capitals’ coach in May. The Capitals visit Nashville on Jan. 16 and host the Predators on March 28.
