COLUMBIA, Md. — Howard County Police are charging a man in the sexual assault of an 86-year-old woman who accepted a ride from a stranger at a Columbia bus stop.
Police say 54-year-old Michael Pinkney of Columbia was charged Thursday with first-degree rape and other offenses in the incident Sunday. He was being held without bond. No defense attorney is listed in online court records.
The woman told police the man drove his dark convertible to an empty business complex, pulled her from the car and sexually assaulted her in the nearby woods.
Police say surveillance video shows a similar car arriving at that location with a passenger aboard, and leaving two hours later without a passenger.
The woman walked to a nearby gas station, where a customer called 911.
