LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — The United States thrilling win over Ghana at the World Cup made Twitter explode.

A video graphic shows the tweet volume surge in the seconds after John Brooks’ header pushed the U.S. ahead in the 86th minute of the match.

In short, the map literally shows social media turn white hot.

Geographically savvy people should also note the game drew a much larger reaction from fans on the East Coast. To be fair, the West Coast folks were still at work.

Hype surrounding the every-four-year soccer tournament has been leading to record television ratings. Washington has generated the highest ratings in the country. Monday’s game did a 11.8 rating in the nation’s capital.

Baltimore was the sixth-highest rated market with an 8.7 rating, according to ESPN.
