NORFOLK, Va. (CBSDC) – It is never too late to receive your high school diploma.

Lela Burden, 111, received hers Tuesday.

“I’m not old yet, I’m still a young lady,” Burden told WTKR back in May when she turned 111 years old.

Burden was in high school back in 1918 when her school was temporary shut down due to the flu pandemic. She was working two jobs at the time and never went back to school — until now.

She told the station she has learned more from her experiences than most get taught in two lifetimes.

“Not any different,” she told WTKR when asked how she felt to be one of the oldest women in the world. “Still have your aches and pains but thank God I’m still alive.”
