LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — A female teacher at Potomac High School alleged to have had inappropriate contact with a minor has been charged with assaulting an officer during the course of the investigation, police say.
Linda Burke, 41, assaulted a Virginia State Police special agent while being interviewed on June 11 and was taken into custody, officials say.
State Police began investigating the allegations of inappropriate contact between Burke and a minor at the request of Prince William County Police.
She teaches English as a second language at the school.
Burke, who lives in Manassas, has been charged with one count of felony assault on a police officer and one misdemeanor count of obstruction of justice, police say. She has been released on her own recognizance.
Police are continuing to investigate both incidents.
Burke is scheduled to appear in court on July 8. It is unclear whether she has retained an attorney.
