LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) – A Maryland Transit Administration police officer shot and killed a woman who attacked her at a Glen Burnie light rail station Saturday night, authorities say.
The officer was flagged down by two women at the Cromwell Light Rail Station around 6:30 p.m., according to Anne Arundel County Police. The officer – a three-year veteran of the force – attempted to talk to a third woman who was involved in an altercation with the women.
The woman allegedly began to choke the officer and pull her hair. The officer could not break away from the suspect, even when witnesses intervened, investigators say.
According to police, “in fear for her life,” the officer then shot the woman once in her upper leg.
Both the suspect and the officer were taken to local hospitals. The woman was later pronounced dead, and the officer was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police identified the suspect Sunday morning as 38-year-old Angela Beatrice Randolph of no fixed address.
The name of the officer has not yet been released.
