BALTIMORE (WNEW/AP) — Highway officials say the westbound bridge on Interstate 70 over the Patapsco River has been closed for emergency repairs.
The State Highway Administration ordered the bridge closed Friday afternoon just as rush hour got under way. The bridge goes over the river at the Baltimore County-Howard County line. Ramps from the inner loop and outer loop of Interstate 695 to access westbound I-70 were closed.
Officials say in an email statement that bridge inspectors discovered an issue with a beam that required immediate attention. The agency said it erred on the side of caution in closing the bridge.
Officials said repairs could continue until early Monday.
