LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — The Washington Redskins quietly terminated the contract of Kentwan Balmer last week, nearly two years after he walked away from the team.
On August 2, 2012 it was reported that Balmer packed up and vacated the Ashburn hotel room where he had been staying during training camp without uttering so much as a word to his teammates or coaches. He changed his phone number and remained off the grid for nearly two weeks before the team was able to make contact with him.
During that period, the Redskins placed Balmer on the reserve/left squad list where he remained until last Friday.
He appeared in three games for Washington in 2011 without recording a tackle.
Balmer, 27, was originally selected in the first-round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He also went missing from 49ers training camp in 2010.
