LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — The first day of June marks the start of hurricane season, and officials say it’s important to be prepared.
Crystal Hunt with the Charles County government says it’s very important to make an emergency supply kit in case your home loses power during a storm.
So what should be in it?
“A three-day supply of water, non-perishable food, a battery-powered radio and battery for that radio, flashlight, first-aid kit, any medications that they may need and toiletries,” Hunt says.
Hunt also says to develop an emergency communications plan.
Officials are predicting a normal season and experts are forecasting eight to 13 named storms and three to six hurricanes. Hurricane season in the Atlantic begins June 1 and ends November 30.
