LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) – Police are investigating a homicide in Springfield, Va., after finding a man lying in the middle of the street.

Fairfax County Police were called to the area of Backlick Road and Highland Street just after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday for the report of a man lying in the street, possibly from being struck by a car.

The 24-year-old man sustained an injury to the upper body that was not consistent with a vehicle crash, according to police.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Authorities are withholding the man’s name until his next of kin has been notified.

The investigation is ongoing.
