WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will address the troubles at the Department of Veterans Affairs in remarks from the White House Wednesday morning.
Obama’s comments will follow an Oval Office meeting with VA Secretary Eric Shinseki. Also joining the meeting will be Rob Nabors, a longtime adviser to Obama, who has been temporarily dispatched to the VA to oversee a review of agency policies.
While Shinseki is facing calls for his resignation from some lawmakers, the White House says Obama continues to have confidence in the retired Army four-star general.
The VA is under fresh scrutiny following allegations that as many as 40 veterans may have died while awaiting treatment at a Phoenix hospital. There are also allegations that the hospital staff, at the instruction of administrators, kept a secret list of patients waiting for appointments to hide delays in care.
