ROCKVILLE, Md. — Maryland State Police say a 90-year-old man has died as a result of a single car crash on Interstate 495 in Montgomery County.

Maryland State Police say it happened around 2 p.m. Saturday on westbound I-495 west of Georgia Avenue.

Troopers say the car’s driver, James Wharton Eadie of Bethesda, lost control of his Toyota Camry for unknown reasons. The car struck a cement barrier, hit a light pole and then traveled down an embankment where it came to rest.

Eadie was the vehicle’s only occupant. He wearing a seatbelt but was trapped inside the vehicle. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service officials got him out of the car, but he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Westbound I-495 was closed for approximately two hours after the crash.
