LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — Baltimore Police are investigating a shooting near Pimlico Race Track that occurred less than two hours before the Preakness Stakes was scheduled to run.
A man was shot in the 3300 block of West Belvedere Avenue around 4:30 p.m., according to police. The location is about a block away from track where tens of thousands gathered to watch the race.
The man was taken to the hospital in unknown condition, and was later pronounced dead. Authorities say homicide detectives have been called to the area to investigate.
West Belvedere Avenue is blocked between Beaufort Avenue and Park Heights Avenue as a result of the investigation.
Another man was shot in the leg near the intersection of Old York Road and 35th Street 20 minutes earlier, police say. The site is roughly six miles from the race track.
A third man was reported to be shot in the leg in the 200 block of West Monument Street in the Mount Vernon area around 5:30 p.m.
