LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Not only do drivers spend an exorbitant amount of time commuting each day, but they’re also spending it with a bunch of road rage fanatics in Baltimore and Washington.

Washington has the fourth least courteous drivers in America, according to a road rage survey conducted by AutoVantage. A short drive away, Baltimore motorists are slightly worse and rank as the third worst offenders nationally.

The number of drivers exhibiting rude road habits in both cities has increased dramatically since the survey was first conducted in 2009. Washington is up 16 spots in the rude column while Baltimore jumped 20 other cities on the list.

Houston took top honors for having the least courteous drivers in America. Atlanta is second. Previous road rage leader New York City did not rank in the top five this year.

On the other end of the spectrum, Portland, Oregon drivers rank as the friendliest in America. Drivers in Pittsburgh, St. Louis, San Francisco and Charlotte are also more likely to offer a smile than a middle finger.

The Driver’s Seat Road Rage Survey measured road rage behavior in the country’s biggest cities.
