LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A broken arm will sideline Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitri Orlov for the remainder of the IIHF World Championships.
Orlov sustained the fracture during Russia’s 6-1 victory over the United States Monday in Minsk, Belarus.
The 22-year-old is scheduled to return to U.S. for treatment. It is unclear how long the injury will keep him sidelined.
Orlov appeared in 54 games for the Caps last season.
In other Capitals news, the team announced it has extended its affiliation with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) through the 2014-15 season.
Last season, 17 players, including Orlov, spent time skating for both the Capitals and the Bears.
