LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — A 5-year-old Alexandria girl with cancer wanted the world to hear her “Roar,” and now it will.
With the help of Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, Addy was able to emulate her favorite pop-star, Katy Perry, and create her own version of the music video for Perry’s hit song.
According to Make-A-Wish, Addy’s symptoms began in January 2013, when she was taken to the emergency room with severe stomach pains.
She was sent home, but the pain returned while her family was on vacation a few months later. It was at that time that she received her diagnosis, and began chemotherapy and radiation.
While she was fighting her cancer, Addy passed some of the time at the hospital by practicing sing and dance routines when she felt up for it and watching her favorite artists on YouTube.
It’s only fitting that Addy beat her cancer and then was able to celebrate with a song featuring lyrics about getting up when you’re knocked down, brushing off the dust and being your own champion. Watch her performance here:
Addy also got the added bonus of dancing with Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan at Make A Wish Mid-Atlantic‘s inaugural “Evening of Wishes.” Kerrigan was a guest speaker at the event, according to the team’s blog.
