LANHAM, Md. (WNEW/AP) — Schools across Baltimore and Washington region are encouraging their students and their parents to get on their bikes, strap on their helmets and pedal to class.
Wednesday marks the celebration of National Bike to School Day. Schools in the District, Maryland and Virginia are among the 2,000 participating the day.
The event is designed to raise safety awareness of bicyclists on the road. Officials say the day also emphasizes increased physical activity for children, reduced traffic congestion, and environmental concerns.
In the District, more than 100 students from Capitol Hill area schools will take part in a rally at Lincoln Park.
