LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — A St. Mary’s County woman is facing animal cruelty charges after placing three puppies in a plastic bag and tossing them in a dumpster to die on Sunday.

Tammy Maria Curtis, 49, tossed the puppies in the dumpster after getting into an argument with another person. Curtis, who lives in Lexington Park, initially told the person she killed the puppies and refused to say where she left them.

They were found in a dumpster by a witness sometime later.

The three puppies, which were born on April 24, were having difficulty breathing at the time they were discovered.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department charged Curtis with three counts of animal cruelty.

The puppies have been treated and appear to be okay after being reunited with their mother, according to authorities.
