WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Ryan Kerrigan says he was “thrilled” to hear earlier in the week the Redskins were picking up the fifth-year option on his contract, keeping him in Washington through the 2015 season.
Kerrigan, 25, has 184 total tackles, 24.5 sacks, 2 interceptions and 2 touchdowns through three seasons since being drafted 16th overall by the Redskins in 2011.
Washington had until Saturday to make the move, and having done say, Kerrigan will earn about $1.5 million in 2014 and $7 million in 2015.
“I’m really, really glad to have the fifth year picked up, and really glad to be moving forward with the team,” Kerrigan told 106.7 The Fan’s Grant and Danny on Friday.
Kerrigan only recently learned the team would be picking up his option.
“I found out earlier in the week so I was pretty thrilled when I heard,” he said.
Kerrigan hasn’t missed a game since entering the NFL.
