UPDATED: April 30, 2014 3:07 p.m.

TOWSON, Md. — Baltimore County Police say a man accused of trying to rape a 98-year-old woman in her home has been arrested.

Officers say 50-year-old Paul Earnest Howard Jr. of no fixed address was taken into custody Wednesday morning in Baltimore City. A bail hearing will be conducted.

Authorities obtained a warrant Tuesday charging Howard with attempted rape, assault and theft.

Police say firefighters went to the victim’s home on Saturday for a medical alert alarm. The woman was found lying on the floor.

Investigators say a man had knocked on the home’s back door and asked to come inside. Police say the woman let him in.
