WHEATON, Md. (WNEW/AP) — A busy stretch of road near John F. Kennedy High School in Silver Spring was closed for nearly five hours after a woman was struck by a transit bus early Tuesday morning.
Tsehay Woldemanuel, 34, of Silver Spring was struck by a Ride On bus on Randolph Road between Tivoli Lake Boulevard and Middlevale Road around 5:10 a.m., police say. She was taken to the hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
Officers say Woldemanuel was crossing the westbound lanes when she was hit by a bus driven by 59-year-old Edward Mericle of Fulton. He was not injured.
Police are investigating whether Woldemanuel was walking in the crosswalk.
Westbound Randolph Road was closed at Tivoli Lake Boulevard through the morning rush hour and reopened just after 10 a.m.
