WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Monumental Sports and Entertainment, the ownership group of the Washington Capitals and Wizards, has issued a statement applauding the NBA and its commissioner Adam Silver on banning Clippers owner Donald Sterling from the league for life.
“Monumental Sports & Entertainment has a diverse ownership group, and we respect and value that diversity,” the statement reads. “Our group applauds the swift, strict actions and recommendations set forth today by NBA commissioner Adam Sliver. Commissioner Silver is taking a strong stance, but all of us need to play a role as we strive to eliminate discrimination and intolerance.”
Wizards principle owner Ted Leonsis issued his own statement over the weekend, after the recording of Sterling’s private conversation which was laced with racist comments first leaded onto the internet, via TMZ.
“As I have stated, there should be zero tolerance for hatemongering,” Leonsis said. “Hate speech demonstrates an ignorance that is unacceptable, and I implore all of us to help eliminate any form of discrimination. I have full confidence that Commissioner Silver will conduct a thorough investigation and act accordingly upon his findings.”
Many have been eager to weigh-in on the matter, including Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, who congratulated the d NBA and Silver on “showing great leadership.”
