ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Gov. Martin O’Malley says officials have reached an agreement with the production company that owns the Netflix series “House of Cards” that will keep it in Maryland to film its third season.

O’Malley’s said in an email Friday evening that Maryland and Media Rights Capital had reached an agreement that will give the company a total of $11.5 million in 2014.

O’Malley, who is traveling on state business in Europe, said the amount includes the 2014 Film Production Tax Credit program and $7.5 million in grants.

Media Rights Capital had threatened to move operations out of state if they don’t receive $15 million next season.

“House of Cards’ star Kevin Spacey visited the capital last month during the General Assembly’s 2014 session to urge support for the production.
