HANOVER, Md. — Anne Arundel County Police say a Washington man has been arrested in a carjacking in Hanover.
Officers say 44-year-old Michael Kirk Smith was arrested Wednesday at an apartment complex in Suitland. He is charged with carjacking assault and other offenses.
Police say on April 17, Smith demanded the car keys from a woman who had just parked at a supermarket. Officers say Smith pulled the woman from the driver’s seat and forced her in the backseat.
Authorities say the woman was able to escape and Smith drove the car away. The woman was treated for minor injuries.
The car was found in Washington on Sunday.
