Md. Toddler Seriously Injured By Family Dog
ESSEX, Md. — Baltimore County Police say a 2-year-old boy was mauled by the family dog.
Police and fire personnel were called to the Essex home about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officers say they saw a toddler with serious injuries to his upper body.
Police say the boy was in the home with the family pet, a 3-year-old pit bull, when the dog attacked him. During a struggle to get the dog away from the boy, relatives killed the animal.
Investigators say the family has had the dog since it was a puppy and there were no previous problems.
The boy was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment of serious injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
