LANHAM, Md. (WNEW) — A man is dead following a two-vehicle accident that occurred on Route 15 in Emmitsburg, Md. around 12 p.m. Sunday.
State police responded to the accident involving a truck and SUV. Police say the truck was traveling on Motter’s Station Road attempting to cross over the northbound U.S. Route 15 lanes, and the SUV was traveling northbound on U.S. 15 in that area.
The driver of the truck, 87-year-old Charles Stambaugh, failed to yield the right of way to the SUV when they collided, police say. Stambaugh was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver and two other passengers in the SUV were transported to a local hospital. Northbound Route 15 was closed with a detour available on Motter’s Station Road.
Stambaugh would have turned 88-years-old on May 2.
